Valentin Uryupin (Conductor)

Valentin Uryupin is a conductor and the most honored Russian clarinet player. He has received 19 international prizes. 

Valentin Uryupin was born in Ukraine. He received his musical education at the Moscow Central Musical School and at the Moscow Conservatoire under the supervision of Evgeny Petrov (clarinet) and Gennady Rozhdestvensky (conducting). He participated in master-classes held by Charles Neidich, Jacques Di Donato, Nicolas Baldeyrou, Roman Guillot, and Michel Letiec. He took conducting classes held by Vladimir Neymer, Anatoly Levin, and Vladimir Ponkin. He also collaborated with Alexander Bonduryansky, Teodor Currentzis, Murad Annamamedov, Alexander Rudin, Grigory Frid, and other renowned musicians. 

As a soloist and conductor, he has performed with the Svetlanov Orchestra, National Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Vladimir Spivakov, the New Russia Orchestra under the baton of Yuri Bashmet, Chamber Orchestra Musica Viva under the baton of Alexander Rudin, State Academic Chamber Orchestra of Russia as well as the orchestras of Geneva, Brussel, Turin, Beijing, Prague, Minsk, Almaty, Wrocław, Tashkent, Kharkov, Odessa, Ekaterinburg, Samara, Tolyatti, Yaroslavl, Ulyanovsk, Kostroma, Kirov, and Orel. He has appeared with Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Alexander Rudin, Felix Korobov, Howard Griffiths, Dirk Brossé, Lothar Seifert, Čiurlionis quartet, Oleksandr Bondurianskyi, Natalia Trull, Tigran Alikhanov, Yulianna Avdeeva, Lukas Geniušas, Mark Pekarski, Graf Mourja, Alexandre Bouzlov, Sergey Antonov, Narek Hakhnazaryan, Albina Shagimuratova, Alena Baeva, Nazar Koshukhar, Haik Kazazyan, Evgeny Petrov, and others.

He has toured to Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Spain, China, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Finland, France, Czech Republic, Japan, and other countries. Valentin Uryupin participated in Usedomer Musikfestival (Germany), Crusell-vikko (Fenland), Concertino Praga Bohemian Festival (Czech Republic), Les Eurichestries (France), Summer Musical Evenings in Kiev, Musical Kremlin, Rostropovich Festival in Baku, Tribute to Oleg Kagan, Moscow Autumn, Mozart’s Days in Moscow, Young Stars of the 21st Centuryin Samara, and other musical festivals. 

Since 2007, Valentin Uryupin has been artistic director and conductor of the Arpeggione Orchestra founded by him (Moscow). In 2008–2011, he was the principal guest conductor of the Kharkov Academic Youth Symphony Orchestra. Since 20011, he has been a permanent guest conductor of the Belarus TV and Radio Symphony Orchestra. Since August 2011, he has been a conductor of the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre. He made his debut there as an assistant of Teodor Currentzis on a new production of Mozart’s Così fan tutte. Nowadays, at the Perm Opera he conducts Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci, Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta, Variations on a Rococo Theme, and Nutcracker, Bizet’s Carmen, Prokofiev’s Duenna and Jester, Hindemith’s Kammermusik № 2, Stravinsky’s Monumentum pro Gesualdo, Løvenskiold’s La Sylphide, Bryars’ Souvenir, Bach’s Quotidiano, Serenade and Ballet Imperial set to music by Tchaikovsky, Rieti’s La sonnambula, Adam’s Le Corsaire, and Concerto Barocco set to music by Bach.
