Luciano Di Martino (Conductor)

The Italian-German Luciano Di Martino is currently aápermanent Guest Conductor of theáSofia ClassicáFM Radio Symphony Orchestra. He made aáhighly successful debut iná2008 at theáHamburg Staatsoper, where he continues to appear regularly as aáGuest Conductor.

He studied orchestral conducting at theáHamburg University of Music and Drama with Klauspeter Seibel and Irving Beckmann, as well ináSiena at theáAccademia Chigiana, attending international master classes with Professor Ilya Musin, Valery Gergiev and Myung-Whun Chung.

Di Martino began his career iná1996 with theáHamburg Symphonic Orchestra, conducting aáSwedish symphony programme dedicated to theácomposers Franz Berwald, Lars-Erik Larsson and Hugo AlfvÚn.

He continues as Guest Conductor of theáNational Opera ináRiga, theáSymphony Orchestras of Solingen, Thessalonica, Bulgarian National Radio Orchestra, theáSofia Festival Orchestra, theáSofia Soloists and theáPhilharmonic Orchestras of Katovice, Macerata and Baden-Baden.

From 2000 to 2004 he was Music Director of theáBulgarian State Opera ináStara Zagora. There followed engagements at international operatic festivals, among them theáBellinzona Opera Festival, theáVilla Adriana Opera Festival, theáNovosibirsk Christmas Festival, theáWorcester Music Festival, theáSofia New Years Music Festival and performances at theáGrosses Festspielhaus during theáCulture Weeks ináSalzburg.

Di Martino conducts operas ináNew York, Minneapolis, Wilmington, New Brunswick, Lisbon, Granada and Strasbourg.

With theáNovosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra he has conducted many demanding symphony programmes dedicated to Mahler and Shostakovich, as well Stravinskyĺs Le Sacre du printemps.

Di Martino is aáversatile conductor and is also actively involved inácontemporary symphony music; he has premiered works by Maximilian Kreuz, Christos Samaras and Fulvio Delli Pizzi.

Live television broadcasts include gala concerts with some of theáworldĺs most distinguished performers, among them Ghena Dimitrova, Anna Tomowa-Sintow and Kaludi Kaludov, as well symphony concerts with stars including Uto Ughi, Maxim Vengerov, Pepe Romero and Leticia Moreno.

He also works with talented young performers such as Svetlin Roussev, Luigi Piovano, Dag Jensen and Anton Barakhovsky.

In 2004 he conducted Boris Christoffĺs anniversary concert at theáSofia National Opera and iná2006 came Verdiĺs Messa da Requiem inámemory of Ghena Dimitrova.
