Naughty songs

Pianist - Alexey Suchkov, soloist - Alexey Gerasimov

One-act ballet to the music of Francis Poulenc (vocal cycle "Naughty Songs" on anonymous texts of the XVII century, FP 42; "Three Eternal Movements", FP 14a, II. Très modéré; "Naples", FP 40, II. Nocturne; "Three Pastorals", FP 5, III. Vite)

The premiere took place in Perm in 2020.

"Naughty Songs" is Anton Pimonov's first production for the Perm Ballet. As in previous works, the choreographer continues the chosen line of neoclassicism and visualizes the music. This time he turns to the vocal cycle of the same name by Francis Poulenc, adding piano miniatures of the composer to it. Despite the fact that the stories of the relationship between a man and a woman are guessed in eleven micro—plots, the main character of this ballet is actually a classical dance, manifested in all the variety of forms and moods. The tone of the "mischief" of the production is set by the sometimes unpredictable rhythmic contrasts in the pianist's playing, the energy of the baritone voice — another fundamentally important participant in the performance, as well as the lightness and ease of the choreographer in handling the arsenal of possibilities of classical ballet.

When the snow was falling

One-act ballet to music from the soundtracks for the movie "Fahrenheit 451" and the TV series "The Twilight Zone" (episode "Walking Walk")

The world premiere took place in Perm in 2014. Resumption of 2019.

The second production by Englishman Douglas Lee in Perm, like his nominated for the Golden Mask Souvenir (2011), does not have an explicitly stated plot and is a set of paintings and associations. The ballet was created specifically for the project "Winter Dreams". The main image from which the choreographer started was the spectacle of falling snow: it determined the mood, the music, and the scenography of the premiere. The theme of dolls, or frozen figures that come to life when the gaze is directed at them, and freeze, as if the factory has run out of them, when the audience's attention slides further, runs through the whole performance. Douglas Lee himself describes it this way: "... It's like what we can see when we twist glass balls with snow in our hands or listen to the melody of a music box playing." In this case, the "box" is filled with the music of the Hollywood classic Bernard Herrmann, co-author of Hitchcock and Wells. The mysterious harmony of the soundtrack imperceptibly reconciles with the inevitable not only the participants of the action, but also the spectators immersed in contemplation.

Concert No. 5

Ballet to the music of Concerto No. 5 for Piano and Orchestra in G Major, Op. 55 by Sergei Prokofiev

"Concert No. 5" is Anton Pimonov's fourth appeal to the music of Sergei Prokofiev. His previous ballet, Violin Concerto No. 2, was called by critics an "intellectually exquisite work" and brought the choreographer a Golden Mask in 2017.

Concerto No. 5 for Piano and Orchestra in G Major reflects Prokofiev's creative quest in the early 1930s. He is characterized by assertiveness and "toccateness", abrupt and unexpected transitions between musical "plans". All this resonates in Anton Pimonov's choreography. A follower of the neoclassical trend, he, like Prokofiev in the concert genre, departs from the romantic tradition and creates a ballet of a different type — in which dance is equivalent to music and merges with it into a single, inseparable whole.
