Alexander Markovich (Piano)
Pianist and composer. Born in 1964 into a family of musicians, Alexander
Markovich graduated from the Gnessin Special Middle School of Music and the
Moscow Conservatoire, specialising in piano and symphony conducting. At the age
of thirteen he was awarded 1st prize at the International Prague Youth
Musicians’ Radio Competition.
Since 1990 he has lived in Israel. Has appeared together with Vadim Repin,
Maxim Vengerov, Sergei Nakariakov, Julian Rachlin, Ida Haendel and Gérard Caussé
at such prestigious venues as Wigmore Hall in London, Carnegie Hall in New York,
Berlin’s Philharmonie, the Heichal Hatarbut in Tel Aviv, Suntory Hall in Tokyo
and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris.
Works with major symphony orchestras including the Detroit, Montreal and
Gothenburg Symphony Orchestras, the WDR Cologne Symphony, the Residentie
Orchestra in The Hague, the London Philharmonic, the Buenos Aires Philharmonic
Orchestra, the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra, the Norrköping Symphony
Orchestra and the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria. After performing with
the Bayerische Staatsorchester in Munich under Paavo Järvi the pianist was
immediately re-invited to take part in the orchestra’s New Year Gala performance
conducted by Zubin Mehta.
In recital and with orchestras he has given concerts at the Great Hall of the
Moscow Conservatoire, Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires) and the Royal Festival Hall
(London).
Has taken part in the Ruhr Piano Festival and the Stars of the White Nights
festival. In April 2015 at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre he gave
a concert marking 175 years since the birth of Tchaikovsky.
The pianist has released discs with the Teldec, Deutsche Grammophon and Erato
studios.
