Varvara Nepomnyashchaya (Piano)

Varvara Nepomnyashchaya was born in Moscow in 1983. After studying for eleven years with Professor Lidia Grigorieva at the Russian Gnessins’ Academy of Music, she was accepted as a student in the class of Professor Mikhail Voskresensky at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatoire. From 2011 to 2013 she continued her studies with Professor Evgeni Koroliov at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. Varvara won numerous prizes and scholarships at an early age, such as 2nd prize at the Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig in 2006, 2nd prize at the Nagoya Piano Competition in 2008, 3rd prize at the Bremen Piano Competition in 2009, 3rd prize at the Svetislav Stančić Competition in Zagreb in 2011 and 3rd prize at the LXIII Prague Spring Competition in 2011. In 2012 she won 1st prize at the XII Géza Anda Competition in Zurich. The jury also awarded her the Mozart Prize. She received the Géza Anda Audience Prize for her performance of Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto, accompanied by the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra under the baton of David Zinman. For several years, Varvara has been performing at home and abroad as a soloist with various chamber ensembles and symphony orchestras. Numerous concert engagements have already taken her to Russia, Germany, France, Poland, Italy, Austria, Japan and Switzerland. Innumerable concerts are planned for her as a result of her 1st prize in the Géza Anda Competition, including with the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana, the Musikkollegium Winterthur, the Wiener Kammerorchester, the Orchestra of German Radio SWR, the Orchestra of the St Petersburg Cappella, the Jenaer Philharmonie, the Staatsorchester Brandenburg Frankfurt am Oder and the Concerto Budapest. She has been a guest at such prestigious festivals as the Ruhr Piano Festival, the Montreux Septembre Musical, the Gstaad Menuhin Festival, the Lucerne Piano Festival, St Petersburg’s Musical Olympus, the Budapest Spring Festival, the Festival Klangräume in Waidhofen, the SWR Schwetzingen Festspiele, the Musikdorf Ernen and the Cervo Chamber Music Festival. During her studies at the Moscow Conservatoire, she undertook an intensive study of chamber music under Professor Alexander Bonduryansky. Varvara received valuable artistic encouragement from renowned piano teachers and pianists such as Vladimir Krainev, Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, Dmitri Bashkirov and Andrzej Jasiński. From 2011 to 2013 she was a lecturer at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. Her first live CD with works by Beethoven and Schumann was released recently.
