Alexander Ramm (Cello)

Alexander Ramm is perhaps one of the most gifted and sought-after cello players of his generation. His style combines virtuosity, deep insight into composer’s frame of mind, emotional intensity, clear bow articulation and artistic distinctiveness.

Highlights of the 2016/2017 season include performances in Philharmonie de Paris, debut in Cadogan Hall with Valery Gergiev as well as performance of Shostakovich cello concerto no.2 with Mikhail Yurovsky in Belgrade.

Alexander Ramm has won the Silver Medal at Tchaikovsky International Competition (Moscow, 2015), as well as other numerous musical contests, including 1st Cambridge International Boston Competition (Boston, Mass., 2005) and 1st National Music Competition (Moscow, 2010). As of now, Mr. Ramm is the only Russian national finalist and laureat of the most prestigious Paulo Cello Competition in Helsinki (2013).

Alexander Ramm has won the Silver Medal at Tchaikovsky International Competition (Moscow, 2015), as well as other numerous musical contests, including 3rd Beijing international music competition (Beijing, China) and 1st National Music Competition (Moscow, 2010). As of now, Mr. Ramm is the only Russian national finalist and laureat of the most prestigious Paulo Cello Competition in Helsinki (2013).

Alexander Ramm was born May 9, 1988 in Vladivostok. He was educated at Glière Children Music School in Kaliningrad (class of Svetlana Ivanova), then at Moscow Chopin College of Performing Arts (class of Maria Zhuravlyova). In 2012 Alexander graduated Moscow Conservatory and then received Postgraduate Diploma (class of Prof. Natalia Shakhovskaya, People’s Artist of the USSR). Alexander has also studied at Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin under Frans Helmerson.
