The outstanding violinist Vadim Repin is a leading figure in the musical world, not only as a virtuoso performer but also as the founder and artistic director of the Trans-Siberian Art Festival. The centre of the festival is the city of Novosibirsk, where Vadim Repin began his musical education and embarked upon his stellar career. In the seven years since its inception, the Trans-Siberian Art Festival has become an imposing cultural forum that crosses geographic, cultural, and political borders with ease. A unique concert in the Mikhailovsky Theatre will combine the exotic colours of the East and the uncompromising honesty of Shostakovich. His brilliant First Violin Concerto, which bears comparison with any of his symphonies in the seriousness of its tone, its eloquence, and its expressivity, could be considered “the music of reality”. And the two Scheherazades — Rimsky-Korsakov’s symphonic suite and Ravel’s overture — are musical fantasies in which a fascination with the East is cultivated by fairytales and legends.
The conductor will be the international award-winning Japanese maestro Kazuki Yamada, Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
