World-famous choreographer Nacho Duato has created his own version of the famous ballet based on The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes. With a subtle feeling for the art of his native country, the Spanish choreographer presents The Hidalgo of La Mancha, a truly authentic production that captures the atmosphere of Castile.
The love story between Kitri and Basilio, the Spanish maiden and the poor peasant who is enamoured with her — and how they are forced to fight for their happiness — remains at the centre of this performance set to the music of Ludwig Minkus. However, for the first time in the history of choreographic interpretations of this famous work, we will see Don Quixote raised from his non-dancing, purely functional role as the link between the ballet’s various episodes to become a fully-fledged character on the stage.
