Lance Ryan (Tenor) Since his stellar German debut as Otello at
Stдdtische Bьhnen Mьnster in 2005, Lance Ryan has been one of the most sought
after heldentenors in Europe. Lance Ryan’s glowing reputation for his
superlative voice, musical artistry and powerful stage presence continues to
garner great acclaim. In testimony to this, Lance was named Singer of the Year
by the prestigious Opernwelt magazine in 2006/2007.
Having sung at premiere opera houses across the
world including the De Vlaamse Opera in Belgium, the Teatro la Fenice, Opera du
Rhin Strasbourg, Wiener Staatsoper, and Oper Frankfurt, Lance recently debuted
at the Metropolitan Opera as Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos.
Lance Ryan gave his debuts as Siegfried in both
Siegfried and Gцtterdдmmerung from Wagner’s Ring Cycle in the
2006/2007 season. Of his performances, the leading German Opera magazine
OPERNGLAS remarked, “It is not an exaggeration to say he is
sensational.” Since then, he has been in high demand as a
Wagner singer of extraordinary caliber.
This internationally acclaimed Canadian tenor
currently resides in Karlsruhe, Germany, where he is a principle artist with the
Badisches Staatstheater. He became a member of the ensemble after
outstanding guest appearances with the company as Cavaradossi in Tosca,
and Siegmund in Walkьre. His first ensemble performance was a
highly praised Calaf in Turandot directed by Denis Krief. Other recent
performance highlights include acclaimed guest appearances at the opera houses
of Rome, Stuttgart, Dresden, Oslo, and Cagliari.
Lance Ryan’s future engagements in 2010 and 2011
promise great treats for audiences throughout Europe. He will be lighting up the
stages of Amsterdam Opera, Oper Kцln, the Bayreuther Festspiele, La Scala,
L'Opйra National du Rhin and El Liceu in Barcelona.
A native of White Rock, British Columbia, Lance
Ryan began his vocal studies in Canada and the United States, and has his
Bachelor of Music from the University of British Columbia. Mr. Ryan
received the majority of his training in Italy with his teachers Carlo Bergonzi,
Iris Adami Coradetti and Gianni Raimondi. He was the winner of the 2002
International AsLiCo Competition in Milano (winning from a pool of over 200
singers from 20 countries), and was a prize winner in the Ottavio Ziino
competition in 2003.
