Ivan Stolbov (Clarinet) clarinet
Born in St. Petersburg in 1978, began his musical studies at the age of 8. In 1995 entered the St. Petersburg Conservatoire, class of Prof. Valery Bezruchenko. In 1999 he was invited to play in the Youth Orchestra of the Mariinsky theatre, in the same year he received Grand Prix at the International Wind Festival in Novosibirsk for performing Mozart's clarinet concerto with orchestra.
In 2000 he won the 1st prize at the All-Russian competition, in 2001 as a member of woodwind quintet the 3rd prize at ARD competition in Munich. In the same year he entered the High Music School of Detmold (Germany), class of Prof. Hans-Dietrich Klaus. During the studies he participated in the masterclasses of Francois Benda, Anthony Pay, Aurele Nicolet, Alessandro Carbonare, Andras Schiff and Thomas Quasthoff.
In 2004 he won the 1st prize at the International competition "Jeunesses Musicales" in Bucharest, in 2005 the 1st prize at Rimsky-Korsakov Competition in St. Petersburg. In the same year he obtains the position of solo clarinetist in the orchestra of Mariinsky theatre.
In November 2007 he won the 1st prize at the International Wind competition in Tokyo.
Concert activities include numerous recitals and chamber music concerts in Russia, Western Europe, USA and Israel. As a soloist he performed with Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra, Youth Orchestra of Mariinsky theatre, State Hermitage Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of the town of Detmold, St. Petersburg State Symphonic Orchestra, Belarus Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.
