Honoured Artist of Russia

Sergei Slovachevsky was born in St. Petersburg in 1966. He graduated from the Rimsky Korsakov St. Petersburg State Conservatory with a doctoral degree as a cellist (classes of Profs. Alexander Nikitin, Natalia Gutman and Mstislav Rostropovich) and from the St Petersburg State University of Culture as a symphony orchestra conductor (classes of Vladimir Altschuler and Yury Simonov).

In 1991–1996 he was a professor at the cello department of St Petersburg Conservatory. In 1988–1998 he worked as a deputy concertmaster of the cello group at the St Petersburg Philharmonic Hall Symphony Orchestra (Russian Honoured Ensemble) and in 2003–2009 as a soloist and concertmaster of the same orchestra. In 2006, he founded the ‘Sergei Slovachevsky’s Creative Project’ international music festival in St Petersburg. He was the Chief Conductor with the St Petersburg National Symphonic Orchestra in 2010–2012 and the Chief Conductor and Artistic Director with the Konstantinovsky Symphony Orchestra in 2010–2011. In 2012 he moved to Finland where he lived until 2016. Since 2016, he has been teaching at the Moscow National Alfred Schnittke Music Institute. With his wife, violinist Renata Bachrach, he has appeared for several years in the Kamarimusiikkisarja, annual concert series by the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Sergei Slovachevsky has toured throughout Europe, the USA, Japan, Turkey and Israel. He has given concerts at Salle Gaveau (Paris), Casals Hall, Suntory Hall and Opera City Hall (Tokyo), Budapest Palace of Arts, Teatro San Carlo (Naples), Teatro Massimo (Palermo), Great Hall of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory and Tchaikovsky Concert Hall (Moscow), appearing alongside such musicians as Yuri Temirkanov, Maxim Shostakovich, Rodion Shchedrin, Mariss Jansons, Emanuel Ax, Pavel Kogan, Arnold Katz, Ivan Spiller, Andrey Anikhanov, Laurent Petitgirard, Stefan Sanderling, Thomas Dausgaard, Igor Uriash, Ignat Solzhenitsyn, Irina Bogacheva, and Dora Schwarzberg.

He is a recording artist with Ongaku No Tomo, Olympia, Sony Classical, and the St Petersburg Recording Studio (former Melodiya). He plays a 1730 Italian cello by the Veronese master Giovanni Battista Zanoli.
