Vasily Kang (Conductor) Honoured Artist of Russia. Graduated from the St Petersburg State
Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire as an instrumentalist in 1983 (trumpet class of
Professor Bolshiyanov). Joined the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra as a
musician in 1981, and currently performs first trumpet. From 1986-1992
worked with the Moscow Virtuosi State Chamber Orchestra under Vladimir Spivakov.
Together with the ensemble, in 1988 he took part in a recording of
Shostakovichґs First Piano Concerto for BMG (USA) with Yevgeny Kissin performing
the solo. From 1997-2006 he worked with KBS – Koreaґs TV and Radio
Orchestra. At the same time he studied at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music
(orchestral conducting faculty), graduating in 2005, class of Professor
Zinoviev. Made his first appearance as a symphony orchestra conductor at the
Ulyanovsk Philharmonic Hall in 2005. At the Mariinsky Theatre his debut as a
conductor took place in January 2006 with La Sylphide. He has since
also conducted the ballets Don Quixote and The Meek One.
