Sergei Krylov (Violin soloist)

Born in Moscow into a family of musicians, Sergei Krylov started studying the violin at the age of five and he gave his first concert after only one year. At ten he made his debut with orchestra and started performing at major venues in Russia, China, Poland, Finland and Germany. When he was only sixteen years old he recorded Mozart’s Concerto K 219 and a number of programmes for Soviet radio and television.

At a very young age he won the first Prize at the International Competition “R. Lipizer” and then went on to study with Salvatore Accardo; he became well known to the international public after being awarded the First Prize at both the “A. Stradivari” Competition in Cremona and at the “Fritz Kreisler” Competition in Vienna. Following these successes he has embarked on a brilliant career, performing at the Radio France Auditorium in Paris, the Berlin and Munich Philharmonie, the Wien Musikverein and Konzerthaus, Athens’ Megaron Centre, Tokyo’s Suntory Hall, the Santander and Granada Festivals, Prague’s Spring Festival, the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires and at La Scala in Milan. He made his debut with the English Chamber Orchestra at the Barbican Centre in 2001 and was afterwards invited to perform under the baton of Vladimir Ashkenazy on a several occasions. Sergey Krylov has appeared with some of the world’s most prestigious orchestras, such as the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, the Camerata Academica Salzburg, the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, the Czech Philharmonie, the Orchestra “Giuseppe Verdi” in Milan, the Orchestra della Radio di Lugano and I Solisti Veneti.

He has performed with many directors, including James Judd, Jutaka Sado, Dmitry Kitaenko, Saulus Sondezkis, Zoltan Kocsis, Ralf Gothoni, Muhai Tang, Franz Welser-Most, Vladimir Ashkenazy and Mstislav Rostropovich.

In 2004 Rostropovich invited him to play the Beethoven and Tchaikovsky Concertos at the Auditorium National de Madrid, in Parma and at the Tonhalle in Zurich. Besides his activity with the orchestra, Sergej Krylov is active in the field of chamber music and solo violin recitals and during recent years has played alongside Yuri Bashmet, Maxim Vengerov, Nabuko Imai, David Geringas, Stefania Mormone, Bruno Canino, Mikhail Rudy and Lilya Zilberstein.

The 2006/07 season will be full of important engagements including recitals in Italy (Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, Palermo, Ravenna, etc.) and in Germany, concerts in trio with Misha Maisky and Yefim Bronfman. He will perform as soloist with orchestras like the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Hamburg Philharmonische Staatsorchester, the Taipei National Symphony Orchestra and will appear in the opening concert of the Dublin’s RTE Symphony Orchestra.

His discography includes recordings for EMI, Melodya and Agora.
