Evelina Agabalaeva (Mezzo soprano)

Mezzo-soprano

• Diploma-recipient at the II International Competition of Young Opera Singers Opera without Borders (Krasnodar, 2015). 
• Prize-winner at the III International Rachmaninoff Competition (St Petersburg, 2005)

Born in St Petersburg. Graduated from the vocals department of the St Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov School of Music (class of Tatiana Lebed). As a soloist she has performed with the Silver Strings youth orchestra of folk instruments and sung in the Voskresenije vocal ensemble.

At the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire she studied under Vladimir Vaneyev, People’s Artist of Russia and Mariinsky Theatre soloist, graduating in 2013. At the conservatoire’s theatre she sang the roles of Olga (Eugene Onegin) and Marcellina (Le nozze di Figaro).

In 2013 she was accepted by the Mariinsky Academy of Young Opera Singers.

Has appeared with other members of the Academy in a series of concert performances of Soviet operas and operas for children including Ivan Dzerzhinsky’s Quiet Flows the Don (Aksinia), Antonio Spadavecchia’s The Gadfly (Zita Renni), Dmitry Kabalevsky’s Colas Breugnon (Selina) and Sergei Banevich’s Scenes from the Life of Nikolenka Irteniev (Wet-Nurse).

The singer’s repertoire also includes the roles of Polina (The Queen of Spades), Olga (Eugene Onegin), Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Angelina (La Cenerentola), Isabella (L’italiana in Algeri), Aksinia (Quiet Flows the Don), Flora (La traviata) and Kiryanova and Zhenka Komelkova (Molchanov’s The Dawns Here Are Quiet). Performs solo roles in Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Bach’s Mass in B Minor, Bach’s Matthäuspassion and Mozart’s Requiem.

In 2014 she made her debut as Romeo (Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi) in the premiere performance at the Kazakh State Abai Opera and Ballet Theatre (production by Alexei Stepanyuk).

Frequently performs in recital; appears at the Small and Great Halls of the St Petersburg Philharmonic and the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre as well as its chamber venues.

In 2015 she took part in the LI International Festival St Petersburg Musical Spring.

In May of 2016 together with other members of the Academy she took part in a concert performing of Stravinsky’s Mavra at the Royal Festival Hall in London under Esa-Pekka Salonen (the Mother).
