Giampaolo Di Rosa (Organist)

Born 1972 in Cesena, Italy.

The musical portrait of Giampaolo Di Rosa presents a remarkable musician with an autonomous approach to the art of performance and improvisation, an established performer, improviser, composer, researcher and teacher.

Completing his musical studies under the tutorship of world famous professors such as F. Di Cesare (piano), Mons. Valentino Miserachs (composition), Gьnther Kaunzinger and Jean Guillou (organ), Glen Wilson (harpsichord), Jхao Pedro Oliveira (analysis and theory), he has had the opportunity to collaborate with many distinguished musicians. He holds seven academic diplomas, in particular a Master’s Degree in organ performance and a Ph.D. in music analysis.

Giampaolo Di Rosa boasts a vast repertoire of music from every historical period up to the present day, including the complete works of Cйsar Franck, Franz Liszt and Robert Schumann. His discography includes a number of recordings, mainly piano and organ improvisations. In 2010 he has played the complete organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach.

He has developed a personal approach to the art of improvisation, with which he delights audiences in recitals that also include a wide variety of his own virtuoso compositions.

The Iberian organ is increasingly becoming a focus of his musical interests, with an accent on early music as well as new music with improvisations.

After being a faculty member of the Catholic University of Portugal, he became Professor of the Department of Music at the Institute for Letters and Humanities of the University of Minho in Braga, where he teaches improvisation and analysis. He is a dedicated lecturer, and a strong supporter of talented young artists. As a researcher he works in several different units in Europe and has published several papers and music recordings.

2010-2011 he is artist in residence at Ratingen, in Germany, venue of a well-known organ festival directed by Ansgar Wallenhorst.

Away from the concert stage Giampaolo Di Rosa is founder and art director of a number of international organ festivals. In the past several years he has been appointed titular organist in several European countries. Since May 2007 he has been titular organist of the great Iberian organs of the Cathedral of Braga and organist ad honorem of the church of the High Seminary in Oporto. Since 2008 he has been General Music Advisor for the Order SCMG at Guimarгes.

In 2008 he was appointed by the Rector Mons. Agostinho Borges titular organist and art director of the Portuguese National Church in Rome, where he gives concerts every Sunday throughout the year.
In 2010 he was awarded by the President of Portuguese Republic with the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator degree’s of Officer.
