Jean-Pierre Haeck (Conductor)

Born in Belgium, Jean-Pierre Haeck began his musical studies at the conservatory of his home town, Verviers. After studying Greek and Latin Humanities, he went on to training at the Royal Conservatory of Music of Liege, where he won a number of awards: First Prize for orchestral conducting awarded with distinction in the class of Roger Rossel, First Prize for percussion in the class of Louis Koch, the Higher Diploma in specialist musical theory in the class of Gerhard Sporken, the Higher Diploma for trombone, awarded with distinction, the Higher Diploma for tuba, awarded with great distinction and the highest honours, in the class of Guillaume Ackermans, the Teaching Aptitude Diploma, awarded with distinction, and studies of musical history, written harmony and psychopedagogy.

Jean-Pierre Haeck was a trombonist in the Belgian Radio and Television Orchestra from 1988 a 1990, taught at the Conservatory in Liege from 1992 to 1994, and in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg from 1993 to 2000. In 1994, he founded the Mosan Orchestral Ensemble of which he became the musical director and created his own record label: JPH Productions. Alongside this, he was also an assistant to F. Pleyer, the Musical Director of the Royal Opera of Wallonia.

He then conducted at a number of concerts with the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra and the Grand Orchestre d’Harmonie des Communautes Europeennes, la Favorite at the Bordeaux Opera and La Perichole at the Monte Carlo Opera. He is also a guest conductor for the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Wallonia Chamber Orchestra, the Grand-Theatre in Verviers and the Jacques Offenbach International Festival in Bad-Ems.

From 2002 to 2006, Jean-Pierre Haeck was Principal Guest Conductor of the Liege Philharmonic Orchestra.

During the present season he will be conducting the opening concert and Hansel and Gretel with the Liege Philharmonic Orchestra, The White Horse Inn at the PBA in Charleroi and at the Palais-Opera in Liege and he has been invited by the Opera of Rouen/Upper Normandy to conduct in three concerts in Russia a production devoted to famous airs from the operettas of Jacques Offenbach.

Alongside his activities as an orchestral conductor, since 2009 Jean-Pierre Haeck has been devoting time to writing for wind ensembles. His compositions are published by HaFaBra Music.
