Julia Dajneka (Viola soloist)

Yulia Deyneka was born in 1982. She graduated from the Central School of Music of the Moscow Conservatoire (class of Maria Sitkovskaya) and the Moscow Conservatoire itself (class of Professor Alexander Bobrovsky). She subsequently continued her studies in Germany, graduating from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Rostock under Professor Felix Schwarz and completing a post-graduate course at the Universität der Künste in Berlin under Professor Wilfried Strehle.

She was a grant-recipient from the Vladimir Spivakov International Charity Foundation and the New Names programme, during which she toured intensively as a soloist throughout Russia and Europe. In 1997 she won the Presidential Prize which was founded for young Russian talents. Her name features in the Golden Book of Young Talents of the 20th and 21st Centuries.

During her studies in Germany, Yulia Deyneka’s talent was noted by the internationally acclaimed conductor and pianist Daniel Barenboim who invited her to become leader of the viola section in the West-Eastern Divan orchestra. In 2005 she won a competition to become leader of the viola section at the Berliner Staatsoper, a post she currently still occupies. The young violist regularly appears as a soloist with symphony orchestras. In 2010 Yulia Deyneka made her debuts at the Great Hall of Berlin’s Philharmonie and at the Berlin Konzerthaus. She has performed Alfred Schnittke’s Viola Concerto with the Staatskapelle Berlin under Andris Nelsons.

Chamber music holds a particularly important place in Yulia Deyneka’s career. She frequently appears together with Daniel Barenboim at such venues as the Berliner Staatsoper, Berlin’s Philharmonie, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires in addition to performing at international music festivals in Schleswig-Holstein, Utrecht, Lockenhaus, Salzburg, Annecy and Jerusalem and the December Evenings and Renaissance festivals among others. She has appeared at the Chamber Music Connects the World festival in Kronberg, performing alongside Gidon Kremer and Yuri Bashmet. Other on-stage partners have included such musicians as Janine Jansen, Pinchas Zukerman, Nikolaj Znaider, Maxim Rysanov, Alexei Ogrintchouk, Frans Helmerson, Sergei Krylov and Denis Matsuev.

Since 2006 Yulia Deyneka has been a Professor at the Academy of Music in Seville (Spain). Has recorded on radio in Russia and Germany. She performs a viola made by the Italian craftsman Gabriele Jebran Yakoub.
