Nicholas Roslavets (Composer)

Nicholas Roslavets (January 4, 1881, the province of Chernigov Surazh - August 23, 1944, Moscow) - Russian composer, musician, violinist and teacher.
In 1902-12 he studied at the Moscow Conservatory as a violinist and composer (class of Vasilenko). In the 20-ies. was director of the Kharkiv Conservatory, then - the head of the political department at the Moscow Music publishers, chief editor of "The musical culture." Roslavetz creative formation took place under the influence of the French Impressionists and Scriabin. Around 1915 he developed an original technique based on atonal writing sintetakkorda - sound complex, which serves as the basis for all vertical and horizontal sound combinations of the composition (the idea sintetakkorda shenbergovskoy akin to the idea of the series). In 1920 Roslavets - an active member of the Association of Contemporary Music, the representative of "modernist" wing of Soviet music, often appeared as a music critic. Later, under pressure from the "proletarian" music he was forced to effectively abandon creativity. Major works Roslavetz - symphonic poem "In the hours of the New Moon" (1910), "Komsomol" (1928), Chamber Symphony (unfinished), the Violin Concerto (1925), sonatas and pieces for piano and violin with piano, string quartets, piano trios . Many works Roslavets, apparently lost.
