Recognised for the passion, range and sensitivity he brings to his extensive repertoire, Christian Blackshaw has performed throughout the world with many distinguished orchestras and conductors. His playing combines tremendous emotional depth with great understanding and, in the words of one London critic, "sheer musicality and humanity". The past two seasons have seen triumphant returns to the BBC Proms and White Nights Festival, St. Petersburg under the baton of Gianandrea Noseda. First appearances over 2003 and 2004 included the five Beethoven Piano Concertos in Berlin's Philharmonie, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Yuri Temirkanov and the RAI Orchestra, Turin and Gianandrea Noseda. Christian Blackshaw studied with Gordon Green in Manchester and Royal Academy winning the gold medals at each. Whilst still a student he won the Casella International Competition, Naples and a gold medal from the President of Italy. He continued his studies at the Leningrad Conservatoire with Moisei Halfin and later with Sir Clifford Curzon in London.
His Royal Festival Hall debut was with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and subsequently he has performed with the Halle, City of Birmingham Symphony, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Bournemouth Symphony, Royal Scottish National, BBC Philharmonic, BBC Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Israel Philharmonic, Dresden Staatskapelle, St. Petersburg Philharmonic and Moscow Philharmonic.
Christian Blackshaw's debut in the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam was made in 1990 with Valery Gergiev and the Rotterdam Philharmonic. He performed with the Mariinsky Orchestra and Maestro Gergiev at the White Nights Festival, St. Petersburg in 1999 and later at the Gergiev Festival, Rotterdam. He appeared with Sir Simon Rattle and the City of Birmingham Symphony and at the Britain in Greece Festival, Athens with Sir Neville Marriner and the Academy of St-Martin-in-the Fields in the presence of HRH The Prince of Wales. He has given chamber concerts in London with the principals of the London Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra of Europe ; at the Bath Festival and Wigmore Hall he performed the complete Mozart Sonata cycle. Other festival engagements have taken him to Prague, Dubrovnik, Helsinki, Stressa, City of London, Aldeburgh Proms and BBC Proms.
