Speranza Scappucci (Conductor)

Nominated by Musical America as “New Artist of the Month” in November 2014, Italian-born conductor Speranza Scappucci recently made a successful New York debut acclaimed by the public and critics with Rossini’s Il turco in Italia at the Juilliard School and the Lincoln Center. She is considered one of the most dynamic new conductors on the international scene.

Upcoming engagements include concert performances of La sonnambula at the Lincoln Center in a MET Lindemann-Juilliard School production, La Cenerentola at the Teatro Regio in Turin, La Bohème at the Los Angeles Opera and La Cenerentola at the Wiener Staatsoper. Furthermore, she will conduct Il turco in Italia at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Così fan tutteat the Opera di Roma, La traviata at the Sydney Opera and La Fille du régiment at the Opernhaus in Zurich. In addition, she will conduct symphony music concerts with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam as well as gala concerts at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and the Palace of Culture in Sofia.

In 2013 she conducted a beautifully staged and choreographed version of Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater at the Glimmerglass Opera Festival and opened Scottish Opera’s season in her UK debut with a new production of Don Giovanni.

Recently she conducted La Cenerentola at the Washington Opera, a new production of La Fille du régiment at the Santa Fe Opera, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater with the Orchestra Regionale della Toscana in Florence and a concert with the South Denmark Philharmonic. She conducted Don Giovanni at the Finnish National Opera, Norma at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon, La traviata at the Macerata Opera Festival 2014, Rossini’s L’equivoco stravagante in her Spanish debut at the Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao and a symphony concert including Rossini’s Stabat Mater with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

In November 2013 her first CD album was released on Warner Classics including Mozart arias with dazzling Latvian soprano Marina Rebeka and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra: “... one of the best Mozart albums in recent years” (Manuel Brug, Tonart-Magazin).

Speranza Scappucci, a brilliant pianist, is a graduate of the Juilliard School and the Conservatorio di Musica Santa Cecilia in Rome. She has worked as a coach and assistant conductor at several prestigious international venues including the Wiener Staatsoper, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Chicago Lyric Opera, the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, the Salzburg Festival, the Salzburg Whitsun Festival, the Glyndebourne Festival, the Santa Fe Opera, the Glimmerglass Opera and the New York City Opera. She made her conducting debut at the Yale Opera with Così fan tutte followed by a very successful production of I Capuleti e i Montecchi.
