Schedule for An evening of piano music. Polina Osetinskaya recital. 2022

Orchestra: Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra

Piano

Polina Osetinskaya began to play the piano at the age of five, while at the age of six she gave her first recital at the Vilnius Philharmonic. At the age of eight the pianist made her orchestral debut. With the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra under Saulius Sondeckis she performed Bach’s Concerto in D Minor.
Polina Osetinskaya graduated from the Lyceum School of the St Petersburg Conservatoire and later from the conservatoire itself (class of Marina Wolf), subsequently undertaking a postgraduate course at the Moscow Conservatoire under Professor Vera Gornostayeva.
The pianist has performed with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of the Weimar National Opera, the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the St Petersburg Philharmonic (Honoured Ensemble of Russia), the State Academic Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra, the Moscow Virtuosi and the New Russia orchestra among other ensembles.
Polina Osetinskaya’s onstage partners have included the conductors Saulius Sondeckis, Laurent Petitgirard, Vassily Sinaisky, Andrey Boreyko, Gerd Albrecht, Yan Pascal Tortelier, Thomas Sanderling, Tugan Sokhiev and Alexander Sladkovsky.
Audiences have heard Polina Osetinskaya at the world’s great concert venues, among them the Great and Small Halls of the Moscow Conservatoire and the St Petersburg Philharmonic, Vienna’s Musikverein, the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre and halls in Warsaw, San Francisco, Brussels and Japan. Polina Osetinskaya has appeared at the Wallonie Festival in Brussels, the Mostly Mozart festival, the Frédéric Chopin Festival in Miami and the December EveningsCrescendo and Stars of the White Nights festivals to name but a few.
This season Polina Osetinskaya has appeared at the Great and Rachmaninoff Halls of the Moscow Conservatoire, the Moscow House of Music, the Bolshoi Theatre, the Levitan Festival in Plyos, the Baton of Faith festival, the anniversary Crescendo festival and the Diaghilev Festival in Perm, in addition to giving a recital at the Great Hall of the St Petersburg Philharmonic. Also this season, the pianist will have her own subscription series at the Moscow Philharmonic.
This season’s engagements will see appearances at the Diaghilev Festival in Perm, concerts in Russia, Israel and the USA. In St Petersburg the pianist will give recitals at the Small Hall of the Philharmonic.
The pianist is a recipient of the Little Triumph award. In 2008 she wrote her autobiography Farewell, Sadness! which became a bestseller.
Polina Osetinskaya generally composes unusual, almost paradoxical recital programmes. They invariably include works by contemporary composers, frequently alongside classical pieces: “Contemporary music,” she says, “is not just a continuation of old music. But it also helps us find in old music ideas and beauty erased by the decades of the blind museum generation and mechanical and frequently soulless performer.”
Polina Osetinskaya frequently performs music by post-avant-garde composers such as Valentin Silvestrov, Leonid Desyatnikov, Vladimir Martynov, Georgs Pelēcis and Pavel Karmanov. Together with the composer and pianist Anton Batagov she is working on a new music project during which they will be performing works for two pianos.
The pianist’s recordings have been released on numerous labels including Naxos, Sony Music and Bel Air; she is currently working on her next release of two discs on Britain’s Quartz label.
