Alexander Lubyantsev´s performing style has been described by authoritative musician and teacher Dmitry Bashkirov as "fresh and fantastical". His pianism truly has an element of the fantastical, "magical", ghostly otherworldly sounds and captivating images, but with Lubyantsev this opaqueness and illusory feel is combined with bright, life-giving energy. Moreover, Alexander possesses a wonderful technique, with an extremely light facture, amazing sound and staggering freedom of phrasing. It is undeniable that this young pianist performs with extreme inspiration. Her performing style and mental approach to performing create a feeling of utter happiness – for both the performer and the audience

Alexander Lubyantsev is a pianist with unique methods of music interpretation. His remarkable technique and variety of touch earned him 3rd prize in the XIII Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow, Russia in 2007. His fame made news at the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition, when his unexpected early exit was made into international news following ardent vocal protests. Organizers had to quell these never-before-seen demonstrations with an unprecedented press meeting over this matter. His popularity then propelled him to win the most votes to be awarded with the “Special Critic Prize.”

Born in 1986 in St. Petersburg to an accordionist/choir conductor father and a pianist mother, he began to play the piano at the age of five. Widely acclaimed for his prodigious musical talent, he was a recipient of many international awards such as the Grand prix in All-Baltic Young Pianist's Competition in Narva (Estonia, 2001), the 1st prize in International Young Pianist's Competition (St. Petersburg, 2002), the 5th prize in Sydney International Piano Competition (Australia, 2004), and the 1st prize in Russian Music Competition in Ruza, (Russia,2007).

Considered one of the biggest talents of his generation, Lubyantsev has attracted audiences widely in Russia, as well as in Japan, Brazil, Norway, Estonia, Finland, and the Czech Republic, and has participated in the Ohrid Summer Festival (Macedonia, 2007), Dinard International Music Festival (France, 2008) and International Friendship concert in Seoul (Korea, 2010). He has performed as a soloist with various conductors such as Christoph Poppen, Maxim Fedotov, Janos Furst, Sergei Roldugin, Vladimir Stachinsky, Vladimir Spivakov, and Gianandrea Noseda.

Recently, in December 2011 Lubyantsev was invited to the II International Piano Festival of the Mariinsky Theater as one of the featured artists along with other renowned pianists such as Olli Mustonen, Barry Douglas, Nelson Freire and Daniil Trifonov, where he played the Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.21 with the Stradivarius Ensemble of the Mariinsky Theatre under Igor Gruppman.

The 2012-13 season is set to be busy for him. He will perform with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra (Chopin’s Piano Concerto No.1) and Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra (Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.2) in South Africa and touring Japan with the National Symphony Orchestra of Belarus, where he will perform the Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and the Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 3. He will also give a number of recitals including 6 cities in South Africa, the Türi Kevadfestival in Estonia, and the 31st Yokohama International Piano Concert in Japan.
