The Peter and Paul cathedral - the unique sample of Russian baroque of XVIII century, so rare in history of Russian provincial architecture. The height of a cathedral reaches 52 meters. The basic building of a temple from two parties is adjoined by the open roundabout gallery (promenade). To it conduct two wide porches from southwest and northern parties. The main ladder has been turned by initially output aside the Kremlin. In the basis the temple is arranged in the form of the ship.

Divine services in Petropavlovsk a cathedral passed till 1939 (in 1939 the cathedral has been closed). After 1945 in a building of the Peter and Paul cathedral were placed restoration workshops of State museum ТАССР and a planetarium. On July, 13th, 1989 the State museum had been transferred keys from a cathedral, and on July, 25th there was its consecration and divine services have begun.
