Gilbert Caplan (Conductor)

Gilbert Caplan - the large American financier, the founder and the editor-in-chief of journal "Institutional Investor". It has not received special conductor‘s formation - only in the childhood took lessons of game on a piano at musical school. More thirty years ago, in the age of 24 years, G.Caplan has heard Mahler‘s Second symphony under control of L.Stokovskogo who has completely grasped its imagination. In 1982, on the occasion of the 15 anniversary from the date of the basis of the magazine, G.Caplan rented the New York Lincoln-center, the American symphonic orchestra and debuted as the conductor execution of the Second symphony of Mahler. Today it one of leading interpreters of this composition played by it more than with thirty orchestras of the different countries of the world, among which London symphonic and London philharmonic, New philharmonic orchestra of Japan, an orchestra of Milan theatre "La Scala", symphonic orchestra NDR in Hamburg, symphonic orchestras of Budapest, Melbourn and Saint Louis, Stockholm and Los-Angel philharmonic, the central philharmonic orchestra of China and others. G.Caplan conducted also the Russian collectives - orchestras of Mariinsky theatre, Russian National, Novosibirsk theatre of an opera and ballet. With the London symphonic orchestra under control of G.Caplana the newspaper "New York Times" and the Central TV of Germany have included record of the Second symphony of Mahler in number of the best plates of year. It became also to one of the most popular disks in the USA and England where it has been sold 150 thousand copies. G.Caplan is also the researcher of a life and creativity by G.Malera reading about it of lecture at the Harward and Oxford universities, in various conservatories of the world. Its scientific and publicistic works are printed in numerous periodicals - from London musicological "Musical Times" up to the newspaper "New York Times". Caplan - the author and the editor "Mahler‘s Album", 300 photos including more, pictures, figures and sculptural portraits of the composer. It the owner of the author‘s manuscript of the partita of the Second symphony which has got at V.Mengelberga‘s fund. Caplan is a part of advice of many musical organizations, including Carnegie Holl (vice-chairman), the New York public radio station of classical music WNYC, London center "south-bank" and trustee committee of musical faculty of the Harward university.
