“Passion, precision,
warmth, a gold blend: these are the trademarks of this excellent
Israeli string quartet.” The Times
The Jerusalem Quartet continues to be both
a regular and popular visitor to major venues throughout
the world. With a growing reputation in North America, where they
have played at venues throughout New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia,
Cleveland and Washington, the 2012-13 season saw them embark on two
extended tours at concert halls throughout the USA. Their European
concerts have included appearances at venues such as the Tonhalle
in Zurich, the Herkulessaal in Munich, London’s Wigmore Hall and
the Salle Pleyel in Paris. Future performances will take them
to venues in cities including Luxembourg, Birmingham, Rotterdam,
Hamburg and Antwerp. Last season, the Jerusalem Quartet toured Great
Britain in a programme of Schumann together with pianist
Alexander Melnikov to celebrate the release of their highly
acclaimed CD on Harmonia Mundi. During the 2010-11 season,
the Jerusalem Quartet focussed on Brahms’ chamber music with special
residencies at the Auditorium du Louvre (Paris), the Hamburger
Ostertцne festival, the Schubertiade and De Doelen
(Rotterdam). Throughout the 2009-10 season the Jerusalem Quartet
performed their Mozart Plus project at Wigmore Hall, focussing
on the composer’s string quartets and quintets together with violist
Lawrence Power. The Quartet toured with this programme to cities
across Europe including Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Munich and Zurich.
The Jerusalem Quartet records exclusively for Harmonia Mundi and
their discs have been awarded numerous prizes. Their recording of Haydn’s
string quartets won the chamber category of the 2010 BBC
Music Magazine Awards and the Diapason d’Or – Arte,
while their release of Schubert’s Der Tod und das Mдdchen
quartet received an ECHO Klassik award in 2009 and was featured as
“Editor’s Choice” in the July 2008 edition of Gramophone
magazine. The Quartet’s recording of string quartets by Mozart,
released in March 2011, was immediately selected as “Chamber Music Choice”
in BBC Music Magazine the same month. In 2003
the Quartet received the first ever Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award.
The musicians also participated in the BBC’s New Generation
Artists scheme between 1999 and 2001.
